Which Wedding Flowers Are â??Youâ??
Sunday, July 11th, 2010Weddings can be innovative and modern or incredibly traditional. They can be a reflection of the uniqueness of the couple or a gesture of respect for long-standing customs, religious or otherwise. Every element of these ceremonies reflects a great deal about the couple and their preferences, and the wedding flowers are just as significant as is anything else. Choosing the flowers is one of the most important tasks the couple will have to complete before the ceremony. They are used in numerous different roles and that means that there is a lot of work to be done.
Arguably the most important of the wedding flowers are those in the bouquet held by the bride. In what’s likely to be a room full of flowers, these will be the most noticed. Most often, whites and reds are preferred for this. Roses are the obvious choice, due to their connections with romance and love. Many brides will opt for white roses because the color gives the implication of something new and fresh—and it matches most wedding dresses, of course—and because roses have such a romantic implication. Don’t be afraid to branch out a bit, however: It’s your bouquet and your choice.
Wedding flowers usually line the aisle that the couple comes down and, in some cases, even carpet the floor. Rose petals are very popular at wedding ceremonies and, in fact, this is the whole point of having a “flower girl” at all. Rose petals are very inexpensive, unless you try to harvest your own. They can be purchased in quantity from wholesalers. You can spend a small amount of money and, in most cases, you’ll end up with a bit more than you need, which is far preferable to not having enough to go around.
Wedding flowers also include the centerpieces used in the reception. These are some of the most important choices, as your guests are probably going to spend a long time staring at them while they eat and mingle. Make sure you get something that reflects who you are. While the ceremony is the most formal part of the occasion, the reception is a chance to be a bit more relaxed. Centerpieces can reflect the season, match the color scheme of the wedding and be both fun and traditional. Of course, the flowers add a nice fragrance to the room, as well.
